How to get a title change on a car that isn't paid for?

Fiancee and I are getting married in three months. She owns a new car that is under her father's name (as is the loan for it). She reimburses her dad for loan payments. When she moves in with me, obviously she'll have to join my insurance...but can't do so while her dad owns the car. Is there a way for her to obtain ownership and be under my insurance? She's 19 y/o, FYI.

Can she buy the car off of him for like $1 or something? What's the best way of getting this done? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!!How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?
Since there's an outstanding loan on the truck, only the loan company truly owns the truck. The title will be released once the loan is %26quot;Paid in Full%26quot;. Until then, %26quot;Registration%26quot; must remain in the father's name. You can contact the loan company to see if the two of you can %26quot;Assume%26quot; the loan and fill out a loan application. You may be able to have her name added to the loan, but not likely. Her dad actually doesn't own the car, but in possession of the car. He won't own the car till pain in full.

To answer you second question, he will have to continue the payments, insurance and everything like he has the car. The only difference will be that she will have possession of the vehicle till it is paid-off in full. She should continue to either make the payments to her father or the loan company. She will only get actual ownership once the loan is %26quot;Satisfied%26quot;. Then the pink slip will be mailed to the father who will then sign the title over to the daughter. Then and ONLY then, can she go to the DMV and transfer her name onto the title. During this period that the daughter is making payments, record ALL payments made either to the father or the loan company by using a check or money order as your proof of payments. This protects her and documents the money she paid out for the car.How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?
The only way to accomplish what you want to accomplish, is to pay off the loan. Then Dad can %26quot;sell%26quot; %26quot;his%26quot; car to Daughter (and her husband). There is no sales tax due on a %26quot;sale%26quot; between close family members. There will be DMV fees for new title, plates, etc.

Talk to the loan company. They may simply issue daughter (and her husband) a new loan. That way you won't have to go out and obtain a new loan. How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?

You can add her to your car policy and she can add you to her policy (as second driver ). Then when her dad transfers title you get two car discount. I loaned a girl friend one of my cars. We didn't live together, Nationwide added her on my policy for both cars. How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?
If she says she got the car as a gift she will have to pay the sales tax for blue book value of the car. That can be hundreds of dollars. If she says she bought it for a dollar she will have to pay 6 cents. Or whatever sales tax is in your state. How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?
Her dad doesn't technically own the car until the loan is paid in full and the lender releases the title. Until that happens, the title stays in dad's name. How to get a title change on a car that isn%26039;t paid for?
