Car title problem?

my mom went to a little car company paid almost in full for the vehicle. she made the final payments over a few months. this is back in 2001/2002 not sure. she recieved a letter saying that there were no more payments due and that a title would be sent out. we never recieved any title what so ever. we can't even get a bill of sale or even a written receipt because that company has since changed hands with somebody else and are basically non-exsistant. we can't sell or junk the car without a title, we can't even get a salvage title without the original title. how can we fix this, it has been sitting in our driveway for 4 years because we just can't fix it.Car title problem?
Keep the letter they sent you and go to your local dmv and ask them how to go about getting the title from the dealer who sold you the car. Show them the letter for proof, as that is the only documentation your mom seems to have.Car title problem?
Even if there is a lein against it you should still have a title, email me il can have someone get rid of the car for you. for free or even they might pay you.Car title problem?
Why did you wait so long to try and resolve this. Take whatever information you have and visit the DMV and explain the situation. Hopefully, they can get it straightened out for you.

I lost my husband's car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?

Please help asap I am trying to sort all this out so I need clear and accurate information. My husband bought a 1969 VW Kombi bus with expired tags. I was holding on to the docs (expired registration and pink slip for change of ownership) so that when we had the money I would handle that but I somehow 'misplaced' them %26amp; now they are MIA!!! I have looked all over my house and work for them with no success. What forms do I need to get at the DMV, do I need to contact the old owner, what if I cant find him? How can I prove that I actually purchased the vehicle? My hubby is distressed and so am I. If anyone has gone thru this process and come out with a successful outcome please let me know exactly what you did. Thanks much!I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?

You need the old owner to either write you a new bill of sale and/or apply for another title. In my state, a title is not required on a 69 model.

If you cant get in touch with him, I would fake one. If you don't know his name, you have a big problem.

You can look into getting a bonded title or an abandoned one. neither is cheap or easy.

You wont be legally registering that car anytime soon unless you can locate the paperwork and/or the prior owner.

You cant just walk in and get the prior owners name. Thats private info. They cant give it out by law.I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Don't panic.

Every states DMV has a way to handle the wackiest claims. They deal with very unintelligent people.

Check the DMV sites FAQs.. under vehicles and titles. I'll bet this question is there. Tell the DMV you can't find the old owner just to save your self the hassle of hunting them down.

With the VIN number you can go to DMV and get the info on the last owner.

This is often necessary when a car gets abandoned on a parking lot, and there is a need to contact the owner.

But once you have the info of the registered owner, there is no reason why you can't apply for a duplicate, with a change of address.

No one is going to match the signature carefully, because you are not trying to do anything illegal.

Then when you have the duplicate title, you can fill it out for the title transfer process.I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Hope you have a friend that works at a dealership that can get a lost title. Most places won't do it at the risk of it being stolen, they won't get involved.

If a car has a salvaged title...?

If a car has a salvaged title...?

how would that effect DMV, my insurance or purchase?

What does it mean to have a salvage title? Can that title be removed or changed to have a clean title? How?If a car has a salvaged title...?
A salvaged title means the insurance company decided it was too greatly damaged to repair. Then someone bought it for a few bucks and repaired it on the cheap. The car could be OK or it could be mechanically unsafe or it could have been a flood survivor from somewhere like New Orleans and will have rust, mold and electrical problems somewhere down the road. Some, nay MOST insurance companies will not provide full coverage as they consider the car unworthy of repairing if damaged again. Some won't even cover it for liability. Clean the title? NO! Personally I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. If you paid more than about 40% of what the book price of a clean titled car of the same model went for you got the shaft. If a car has a salvaged title...?
I had a 98 tacoma that was a salvaged truck....No you cannot change it into a non salvaged vehicle..This is to protect used car buyers....You would not want to pay full price for a car that was totaled at one time...I got rear ended and totaled the truck again....I still got 10,000.00 for the truck...If it was not totaled I would of gotten about 13,000.00If a car has a salvaged title...?
Salvaged means it cant be registered and driven on the road. Previous salvage means the car has been somewhat repaired, inspected only to see that it has all its doors and a hood and stuff and then you CAN get a title and tag for it.

A previous salvage, rebuilt car is worth no more than about 60% of what it otherwise would be.

If you total it, that's all your insurance company will give you.

Only licensed rebuilders can have a salvage car inspected and turned into a registerable, legally drivable car. They pay a fee for the inspection and then wait for the title.

An individual may be able to buy a salvage car and repair it but they wont be able to get a tag for it until a licensed rebuilder has it inspected and they wont do it for free.

You can drive it all you want around your yard. Just not on the roads until you do.

Lost car title in RI?

I need a replacement car title in Rhode Island for 1991 car. Since the car is more than 10yo, do I need to provide one for buyer? I heard the law was changed in 2000. Where do I go, how long will it take, should I pay an online service?Lost car title in RI?
You need title for ANY age auto you sell.

Contact RI Dept. Motor Vehicles with VIN , make, model, yr and ask for help. They have a form you'll need to fill out. Read and follow instr. carefully and you'll get duplicate title. I'm sure there's a sm. fee.

How long it takes depends on how quickly you act and respond and how long it takes them to do their job. Usually not long. I would not pay on line svc., but you might be able to do all this, or most of it, on line directly with RI DMV.

I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there

How much do I have to put on the title that I sold it for and does she have to change it over here? or in Florida? I am under the impression that she has to pay florida taxes in florida not here.I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
If you gave it to her, you put $0 on the title and give her a bill of sale showing it as a family gift.

There would be no sales tax then.

She would take the signed and notarized title to Florida with her bill of sale. The transfer is handled in Florida.I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
She'll pay a minumum tax, she needs to transfer the title in Fl. Put on the title %26quot;gift%26quot;I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
All you have to do is sign the title over to her. Write her name and address on the back of the title and you sign it.

Now not sure if Florida is like South Carolina where you have to pay a tax on the vehicle each year. Depending on the year, make, model and mileage.

If taxes are due on the vehicle your daughter will pay them in the STATE OF FLORIDA when she gets the car down there and goes to register it.

good luck!I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
That depends on who's driving it to Florida you or her

if she comes %26amp; gets it you can go to the DMV in your state, with her, sign the title, and buy a %26quot;drive away sticker%26quot;

I believe that's about $11. That gives her 10 days to drive to Florida %26amp; get it registered

I would , if I were you , also write up a 'bill of sale' and charge her $1........make sure you have the year-make-model- %26amp; VIN on the bill of sale. also that you %26quot;release all interest in said vehicle%26quot;

She takes the title to her state DMV... with the %26quot;bill of sale%26quot;

they Title it to her in the state of florida ....and get it registered/plated if florida requires any taxes or fees they'll collect ,but i think she'll just need the usual liscence %26amp; title fee

in California Grand Theft; among other charges; and since it is a bank, the feds have you cold also.

you are looking at a minimum of 10 years in state prison and god only knows how long the feds will keep you; depending on what kind of day they are having.

You would be charged with fraud and could go to jail.

Most people selling cars will ask for a certified cheque, which cannot be faked. Previous owner will press charges. DMV has the Vin and the owner will report the car stolen. Check forgery grand thieft auto. No title is bad two ways you cannot get title to insure or license plate the car. They call that receiving stolen goods and the poor guy driving the unlicensed untitled car gos to jail and the guy who altered the title gets forgery charges. California is especally strict with automobile laws. I would say 10 to 15 years in Chino Mens Or County jail will teach you stealing a mans ride is bad!U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?

    Help with online insurance companies?

I檓 looking to purchase a car in the near future, in fact I檓 going to look at some this weekend. Background info, I live in Massachusetts, this is my first car I檓 buying, but I檝e had a license for eight years, and a clean record. In my state (as I believe in all others, though I cannot say for sure), I cannot drive a car if it is uninsured, and I cannot register a car I would buy until it檚 insured. I believe the following to be true, and if it檚 not, please let me know.

In my state, after purchasing a car from a dealer, I will get a filled application from the dealer for registration and title. After getting this application, I need to insure the car, and bring it to a state licensed insurance agent, so that they can stamp and sign said application. Then I can go to the registry and get the car registered/title transferred, and get the plates, so that I can return to the car, change the plates, and drive said car away. I will of course need the previous owner檚 title, or a certificate of origin to finish the transaction to transfer the title, and register the car. After which I檒l need to pass inspection. Then I檒l be in the clear.

Now my question is, if I try one of the various online companies that advertise on the internet, such as Esurance, Progressive, Allstate, Geico, etc, how could they come and stamp/sign the application? Does an agent come to my house, do I go to a local branch or office, or would I be better off getting this done with a local insurance company, and just switching over to a different insurance company after I get the car?

Priority is of course getting the car registered so that I can drive it, and thus, insured so it can be registered and the title transferred. My ability to keep my job is at stake right now, as my previous ride is no longer an option.

I don't know how old you are, but the younger you are, i know the more money you have to pay a month for insurance. The thing I hated about getting insurance was the fact that I had to pay a 500 dollar brokers fee, just for a broker to find me the best kind of insurance. Typically eveyone has pay this.

Recently I switched to a different company and because i went through a representative I didn't have to pay a broker's fee. Their going to ask you for a Solution Number and the Representatives Last Name

I'll give you my reps Solution Number SKMS1

    Reps Last Name Is Tokmo

    The Phone Number Is 1(877)855-8111

I here it's better to just press 0, when the operator comes on. But yeah, just do some shopping around, but for most part the info above is definitley an option, and just ask them if you have to pay a brokers fee. Hope this helps!

Painting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?

Im getting a car but i am going to need to change the title and give it a paint job(at a shop) approximately how much would this costPainting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?
I did a halfway not-sucky paint job on my truck. It took about $100 for materials and another $100 for the sprayer. And of course, I still have the sprayer and some materials left over. If you're willing to do an awful lot of picky detail-oriented work, you can do a decent job in your driveway. If you farm it out, well, you get what you pay for. You can get a driveway-worthy job at Maaco for about $400, or something nice somewhere else for a lot more.Painting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?
it will cost about 2000-3000Painting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?
It depends where you go. If you got a huge SUV or Truck, then look for an expensive job, but if its a compact car, look for a more cheaper job. But anywhere you go, its going to be well over $1,000. I think

But now that the Economy is crap, look for more expensive prices. Just to warn you.Painting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?
I'd say about $2416.36 plus tax and shop supplies.Painting a car how much will it cost ??? how much $$$?
yea, its about 1500 for a paint job on a regular sized car. I'm a senior in high school and we have a autobody program that teaches us how to paint cars. You can get your car painted for almost free if you donate it to the school for a little while. all you haev to pay for is the paint which is like 100 i think. I'd look around for that.

it's not an abandonned car, you bought it from the previous owner, so both parties were in agreement of the car's ownership. the only thing you can possibly do at this point is FIND the previous owner and have her file for a lost title and then re-sign it over to you.Bought car from lady in north carolina. she signed the title, I lost it before i could file it. ?
Some states require the seller to fill out a paper that says in effect...... I sold my car to Mr Smith on Jan. 15, 2008. etc, etc. If NC is such a state, they should have that paper on file. Find out and go from there. The selling lady may then be able to help you get a title

Salvage and rebuilt title car good idea to buy?

I'm looking into buying a used car. i found one that was not too old and had little mileage (its a corolla 2007). the problem is that i ran an autocheck report and it was listed as being a salvage title and then a rebuilt. well i had a mechanic check it out and he noticed there was front damage that was fixed but didn't look to severe, that they had to change the fender and the headlight. so if this is the only damage it has how come it has a salvage title that would consider the car a total loss(it was involved in an accident)? sorry for the long explanation and thank you for good answers!Salvage and rebuilt title car good idea to buy?

skip it, not worth the headacheSalvage and rebuilt title car good idea to buy?
There are basically two ways for a vehicle to be deemed a total loss. One is from a accident, the other is if it was stolen and not recovered before the insurance company paid out on the claim.

Based on your description of there still being signs of damage, it is fairly reasonable to assume that it was involved in a collision resulting in damage close to the full value of the vehicle. The vehicle was probably sold at a salvage auction, rebuilt and then re-titled. Rebuilt salvage vehicles can be a good deal if you are comfortable w/who ever rebuilt it and you know they did it right and fully, however there are a lot of rebuilt vehicles that are put together just good enough to get the appearance to be adequate to get the re-built title.

I personally would not purchase a rebuilt titled vehicle unless it was valued at approx 50% of a similar clean titled vehicle due to the fact that if you were to purchase it and then get into a accident with it, the insurance company would deduct from the value for the title history.

CA changing title w/o the owner?

I m trying to trade-in my car but my mom(owner) is not w. me until november. So i have to change the ownership to my name. im gonna send the pink slip to my mom and have my mom to sign them.

Can i change the ownership by mail? What's the procedure(gift, transfer, selling?) ? how much will it cost? WILL THE TRADE-IN VALUE GO DOWN since there were two owners?

Help Please =)CA changing title w/o the owner?
Laws differ in many states when it comes to selling or buying a vehicle. As far as change of ownership by mail you should be able to do it by mail. I would recommend contacting your local DMV office for information and instructions.

A title transfer from one owner to another can be listed in mutable ways. If the car was giving to you as a gift than you can list it as a gift. There will be a gift tax assessed though. Almost any way you list it there are usually taxes assessed. In the past I have always had the seller list the vehicle as a sale and put a low dollar amount on the sale price so you don't pay that much in taxes.

The procedure for a trade in is usually listed as a sale by the company you are trading the vehicle in with.

The trade in value should not be affected by mutable owners. The things that do affect the value of the trade in are condition, millage, make %26amp; model, and year of the vehicle.

As far as the cost for doing this the DMV determines this at the time of transfer. Just be aware that if the vehicle is over 4 years old you will also have to have a smog test performed before the title transfer is transferred into your name. If you have any other questions check out the DMV website, it has a lot of helpful information.

Please help.. I worked for a Ford Dealership and bought a car that someone traded in, how do i get my title..?

    Car title.

I worked for a Ford dealership back in 2005 for a few months and bought a car that someone used as a trade in.

I only paid 500 bucks for the car.

Payments were taken out of my paychecks until the balance was paid off.

Honestly, I cannot remember if I actually received a Title when I bought and paid off the car.

I have the Vehicle Purchase Contract and tried to contact the dealership to get the actual title sent out to me, however the dealership changed owners and they told me several times that they have never offered anything like that type of payment plan for any of their employees. The paycheck stubs have been long lost or thrown away so I do not have anything saying that payments were taken out, and showing that the balance was paid off.

Question: Now that I want to sell that car and get it out of my driveway, how do i sell it without a Title, and more importantly, how can I get the Title to the car?

How can I find out if there are any car titles in my name?

When I divorced my ex-husband, we had several cars that had either broken down, or we just trashed and parked behind our barn. Some of them were in my name. I was recently told that my ex is selling alot of these, to people who are changing the VIN numbers for good titles. Could I get into legal trouble over this? How can I find out if there are any car titles in my name?
You should be able to go to the department of motor vehicles in your area with you driver's license and find out. What your husbands people are doing is illegal, and if you do nothing you can get in trouble. Notify the police with the names of these people, where they are taking the cars,(if you know,) and ask if they can prevent your hubby from doing this to any of the cars that may currently be in your name. How can I find out if there are any car titles in my name?
I'm assuming you have a file copy of all the titles that he could possible switch. If you get the police involved there will be an investigation and possibly a trial if the police can prove anything, so I would take the copies that I have and run the vin through dmv and check them out.

honestly to do this you,ll need a lawyer to draw up some papers for you and this will have to go to court, you,ll also probably need a warrant to get the car from him, this is a sticky situation because both names are on the title, legally you or him have the right to do what ever you want with it,as long as both your names are on the title, and who ever has possession of the vehicle has legal owner ship of it,basically your going to have to use the law and take it from him,and really quick too,if he finds out your going to do this he could destroy it before you get it back, talk to a lawyer about it,they will be able to tell you what to to do,im no lawyer just someone who's been through it before, good luck. How do you legally make someone transfer title on a vehicle to you?

How can I find out if there are any car titles in my name?

When I divorced my ex-husband, we had several cars that had either broken down, or we just trashed and parked behind our barn. I was recently told that my ex is selling alot of these, to people who are changing the VIN numbers for good titles. Is there any way for me to find out if there are any vehicles registered in my name, and what make and model they are? Could I get into legal trouble over this? How can I find out if there are any car titles in my name?
Check at the DMV, and you are right it is illegal to change VIN numbers. If your name was on one of those vechicles, you could be held accountable also.

How do I sell my car?

I want to sell my 97 car and what about the registration documents?

Do I have to go to the secretary of state 's office to change my registration and title?

    I live in IL.

not yet sold but what I do?

I don't want to sell the car to someone with giving out my title and the registration with my name and info as if there is any problem,, it's gonna be in my name.

Any information? How do I sell my car?
I suggest that you write up a buyers order have price of the vehicle Vin number and miles on it have it say that the deal is final sold as is. You sign it and they sign it. You will need to get your title out sign it and hand it over to the new owner. They will then need to go to the dmv and purchase a new one. At the DMV they will charge them tax, title and license fees. A new title will be mailed to them. In Illinois new plates and title fees are 143.00. I don't know what city you are from so I can't tell you tax. You should be good to go then. If I were you I would request cash, money order or a cashiers check. What do we do with a car that was supposed to be repo'ed?

We filed bankruptcy ch. 7 in July/court in August and then changed our mind about the car and rescinded in Sept. When nobody came to get the car in a month we called the bank and they just said it was up to the repo company as to when they come get it. Then someone on here said they cannot take anything from your private land. My aunt said (back when we first gave it up) they could take it while I was in a store shopping or something like that. Well the car no longer has a plate or insurance. Can they come with a flatbed or a hauler and come get it or can't they? We have never experienced a repo before so we don't know how it works and are those repo stories just horror stories or what? I mean the car is nice and has brand new tires and if we could somehow just keep the car that would be great. How would we ever get the title changed? We also have another large item that was included in the bankruptcy. We called the finance co. 4 or 5 months ago and told them to come and get it but they have not. We got our discharge papers about a week ago. Did not get any letters from any creditor stating what was going to happen, only from the bank the car was through saying that we no longer had to make payments. What do we do with a car that was supposed to be repo%26039;ed?
Your car is still subject any time anywhere the repo company can get it. They will not enter a locked gate, but you are playing with them. If you don't have plates, the police in addition can get it towed, and then you will pay fines, towing, storage, and still lose the car. Come on now, just leave it out front on the curb and be done with it. The horror stories? Not from the repo guys, understand this: they have a business interest only in returning the car to the people/bank/car company that you once did purchase it. Only way for you to keep the car is to 1) contact the lender and bring it back up to current status, including all fees; 2) get it registered and insured. And 3) IN WRITING get a release from the lender notifying the repo guys to cancel the repo. What do we do with a car that was supposed to be repo%26039;ed?
Legally, hiding the car from the repossession agent is THEFT. That said, they CAN enter private property, they just can't enter a LOCKED building. Contact your bankruptcy attorney and find out exactly how actually owns what.

How do you avoid taxes on gifts such as a car?

I used to live with my dad in Pennsylvania. During that time, I drove 'my' car but it was titled in his name. Since then, I moved to Florida (he still lives in PA) and brought my car with me. He now wants to change the title to my name. Is there a way to do this so neither one of us gets taxed out the wazoo? Is it better he %26quot;sell%26quot; me the car for $5.00 or present it as a gift? Is there a difference between PA tax law and FL tax law in this matter or is all federal? How do you avoid taxes on gifts such as a car?
Just change the title over to your name. PA doesn't tax gifts unless they are given for past or future services, and FL doesn't have a state income tax, so you're OK there. For federal, if the value of the car at the time of transfer is under $12,000 then there is no need for either of you to even file anything on it. If it's value is over that, then your dad will probably have to file a gift tax return for the amount over $12K but is very unlikely to owe any tax on the gift.

You won't report it on your tax return. How do you avoid taxes on gifts such as a car?
For the vast majority of people gift tax is a non-issue. Unless your father is a multi-millionaire and you are an only child don't worry about it.How do you avoid taxes on gifts such as a car?
There are 2 issues. Federal gift tax if the FMV is more than $12,000. That's form 709 and your dad would fill it out.

Transfer tax at the state level. My state noticed the %26quot;gifts%26quot; and changed their statute to read FMV. Eg, if the car is worth $12,000, they want the tax based on $12K when you register the car in their state.

(It looks like Florida only charges $100.)How do you avoid taxes on gifts such as a car?
Get the transfer form from your dmv. It specifies if transfer between family. There may be a transfer fee but that might be all.

I lost the title to my car?

Well actually my dad convinced me to put it in the safe deposit box which is now 1000 miles away, though it might also be in his desk etc. But anyway, I am now trying to change my registration to a different state but I can't without the title. How do I get a duplicate title? They said even a fax would work.I lost the title to my car?
You don't say what country or state you 're in.

If in CA you can get a form from the DMV or AAA Auto Club for Duplicate of title. Just say it is lost. It costs $18. You also need a signed Statement of Facts form explaining what happened to the title.

    http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/vr_info.htm

It takes about 3-6 weeks to get a new title mailed to you.

Getting a new title issued will negate the old title.I lost the title to my car?

Whats the best way to sell my car and pay for school?

My car is a Chevy Impala 2005, My mum bought me this car in july after begging an pleading for it (finally). purchased from a car dealer the title is in her name and mine its not yet paid off, see the only reason i want to sell it is because i need the money for a tuition to go to school i applied for a loan an was turned down because of no credit history, so i'll need a co-signer. My mum wont do it because she just bought the car and doesn't want to be responsible for a co-sign on a car and a tuition.

When i did the math my tuition is equal to the amount of the cars worth, so i don't mind getting rid of the car buy something cheaper to get back and forth to school in.

i know this sounds strange, but im sick of 9-5 jobs i just want a career i need the Education. so is it possible to sell this car? can i put a ad in the paper change the title over to someone Else how can i make this work, i still will need a car to get to school because school would be a 1hour commute Whats the best way to sell my car and pay for school?
After gas prices spike this year , most cars fell in value dramatically .

Lots are filled with used , low miles per gallon cars .

You can try the auto trader and craigslist , but you will probably get less that you still owe on the car .

    ( unless it was a 3 year loan ) .

You may have to work a couple of more years or until the vehicle is paid off .

But keep trying to sell it , even though you may get less than the balance owing .

It will get you out of it faster .

Shame on mom for giving in to begging .

I guess it was her first time for that .

  • New Title of ownership ? how can i get?

    I was part-owner with my ex-girlfriend..of a chev..

both names on original Nevada - ownership title..and both names on original Nevad -registration and insurance.

I drove the car exclusively from 2000-thru today ..she drive another she owns..

I broke up -dumped her in September' and moved to Texas..

she discovers im with a new girlfriend here..

So, she goes to Nevada DMV and convinces them to change Title %26amp; Registration - without me and without the title - showing her last payment stub and cancled check - she told them %26quot; my ex boyfriend has the car and i want his name removed.

I am unable to register the car here in texas..and i dont want to drive back to nevada.... the insurance still covers me' and has me listed as a authorized driver..currently.

so im considering leaving the car roadside between texas %26amp; nevada ..have AAA pick it up and leave her the worries of what to do next.

unless theres a way for me to take ownership of this vehicle

legally, helpNew Title of ownership ? how can i get?
If the names were on the title as %26quot;or%26quot; and not %26quot;and%26quot;, John OR Mary Doe, she is legal with what she did. Of course she is now responsible for everything and anything that happens with the car. If it should happen to be impounded and towed, guess who gets the bill?New Title of ownership ? how can i get?
It depends on how the title was issued, if you are still an owner. If the title said, gf name %26quot;and%26quot; you, she would be able to have your name removed from the title. If the title read, gf name, your name, then no, she couldn't legally remove your name from the title, and you could request the State of Nevada DMV, to provide the documents used to transfer the title into her name only. At that point, you would need to go to court, because the licensing agent cannot be held liable for an error that was made, it would be noted on the record of a pending civil matter. I'm guessing your girlfriend said that you two broke up, and that she wants to file a Seller's Report of Sale. That would stop you from registering the car in Texas. You need to contact Nevada, and ask exactly what that record shows. If she reports the car as stolen, well then, you will have a whold heap of crap to settle. Find out for sure what the Nevada DMV has on record, and decide what to do from there.

How do I switch my title of the car into somebody's name?

My boyfriend just received the title of the car from the bank which his ex-girlfriend has/uses. It seems like she finally finished paying it off. I don't see any of her name on the title, only his and her bank that she was paying to. I know I need to get rid of the bank name first, but how do we change his name on the title into her name? Does he need to see her to do that? Also, he does registration and stuff for her everytime the time comes (she mails a check to him) and we are in PA. Sorry I am bit confused about this because I have never done stuff like this before... Please somebody tell us the procedure. Thank you.How do I switch my title of the car into somebody%26039;s name?
The bank name will always be on the title because they owned the car first. He needs to sign in two places on the title (one of front, other on back) and give it to her. She will need to go to the local DMV (Department of Motor Vehicle)office and do the transfer. Make sure she does the transfer. Otherwise, he is still liable for the car. Also, there may be an additional form that he will need to fill out and sign. Call your local DMV office for more details.

In Michigan, how long does it take to have a car title mailed from the secretary of state?

I bought a car for $800 one week ago today. I took it to secretary of state the same day and had it registered and title switched to my name. This morning, I was offered $3800 for it. I don't think there's anything I can do though because I'm still waiting for the title to be mailed from the state. The prospective buyer has the money now... (I got an excellent deal on the car because the seller was moving the next day and needed cash bad) Is there anything I can do to accept this offer now before they change thier mind?In Michigan, how long does it take to have a car title mailed from the secretary of state?
I would suspect that the title will be in the mail any day now. As long as there were no liens on it then they are pretty quick to get the title's too you. I know any time I've ever bought a car and had to get a new title it was in the mail within 7-10 days. You can sell the car to them but they are the ones handing over the money so if they are trusting that you will supply the title once you have then there is no reason you can't sell the car to them.

What steps do I need to follow to sell my car myself?

How do I go about changing the title and what else needs to be done??What steps do I need to follow to sell my car myself?
As long as the title is cleared (no lien or moneys owed) all you have to do is sign the back of the title in the seller's portion and turn the title over to the buyer. The buyer can then go to the title company and apply for a new title to the car. What steps do I need to follow to sell my car myself?
Put your car in the paper or Craig's list. Then meet the person who bought it at one of the notary places and they do all the work with the title and tags.

ty for any help!Getting my first car on the road?
When you buy a used car from a private individual, you can *generally* drive it for 10 days using the bill of sale as the title/registration. Check with your local police department for the laws in your town/county/state.

You pay the seller at the time you purchase the vehicle. If you don't have anough money to buy the car or truck outright, you can arrange a loan through your bank or credit union. Some used car dealers will have a list of financing outlets they go through to arrange the loan for you. All new car dealerships do this too.

Title and registration is changed at your local department of motor vehicles (DMV). This is the same place you got your driver's license. They can also tell you about any inspection requirements in your state. Give them a call for further information.

Insurance can be obtained from any of several sources. Places like Allstate, Geico, and Progressive are just a few of these sources. Call each provider (they'll be in your phone book) and get an estimate of the monthly premiums you can expect to pay.Getting my first car on the road?
A good time to pay the seller is when you're at the notary public, when the seller %26quot;signs off%26quot; on the title. Good idea to get a bill of sale.

When this happens, they have to put on it (title) the cars current mileage.

The VIN is located in the dashboard. You can see it by, standing outside the car. It's located at the lower corner on the drivers side THROUGH the windshield. It has a series of numbers and letters.

After the seller %26quot;signs off%26quot;, you have 2 options, but you still have to get the title transfered to your name.

    1) go to the DMV, get temporary tags. This gives you 30 days to get the title work done.

    2) go to the title bureau. get the title put in your name. You'll have to pay a small fee and the state sales tax. Then go to the DMV and get regular tags.

I don't live in NY, so I don't know about how your state deals with inspections, emission certification or the current insurance laws.Getting my first car on the road?
It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com

How to transfer my car title to my wife? [car registered in California 鈥?moving to Minnesota]?

I recently got married. I am in California, I have the Car title under my name registered in CA. I would like to transfer the tile to my Wife. I would like to transfer my vehicle檚 ownership to her. My wife used to live in Wisconsin, so her drivers license is from WI. Now, she just got a job in Minnesota, What are the steps I need to do to transfer the vehicle to her name?

    1. Should my wife change her license from WI to MN before the transfer?

    2. Should we transfer the vehicle in CA or MN?

    3. Should we change the registration to MN before transfer or can we do it while transferring? How to transfer my car title to my wife? [car registered in California ?moving to Minnesota]?
The title is ownership; they are one and the same. Your wife can't legally change her license until she has a valid Minnesota address. I think you should wait until you have a Minnesota address because you will eventually need a Minnesota title, registration and license. It will probably be more convenient to visit the DMV and do it all at one time. The answer may depend on the time frame involved. Transferring the vehicle to her in CA and then again to Minnesota might be a bad idea. States get suspicious about multiple title transfers in a short period of time as it could look like an attempt to avoid a branded title or tax.

Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?

the car worth around $18,000. he said that he will just give it to me as a present. while i am thrilled, i don't know what should I do. I don't know if it'd be illegal if i just take it and will be able to change the title to me. would DMV ask me?? would i need to pay taxes for the $18,000.

Also, If i decide to buy if from it properly, what kind of agent do i have to go through? i'm just wondering. say, if i give him $18,000. and he doesn't hand me the car. then i will be screwed. so how does this work/?Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
If he wants to give it to you as a gift, you are not liable for any gift taxes. He, however, should report it to the IRS on form 709 on his tax return next year since it's a gift valued over $12,000, though he will not actually pay a %26quot;gift tax%26quot; on it since there is a $1 million lifetime gift exemption. See here for a full explanation: http://turbotax.intuit.com/tax_help/the_

As far as transferring the title into your name, check with your local DMV as it may vary from state to state. I believe most states don't charge you anything for gift transfers other than the normal titling transfer fees. Here's a how-to for California: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/how

If you want to actually buy the car from him, you just need to agree to the terms, print out a %26quot;bill of sale%26quot; and have both of you sign it. It is a legally binding document, though of course you would still have to take him to court if you had to enforce it (I really hope you're not dating a guy that would go back on his word!). Here's a free bill of sale that should be enforceable in any state: http://www.autocrisis.com/print_billofsaDo i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
We are thinking about doing the very same thing. I would suggest searching online through your state DMV. There is some sort of transfer title to family members and gifts. Good Luck!!Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
He's your boyfriend. There's no commitment there, so don't accept the car as a gift.

If you buy the car, why would you buy it from your boyfriend rather than the seller? Sounds pretty skanky to me - like the car's hot.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
i think the easiest way is to have him sell it to you for a very low amount like $100, that way you only have to pay sales tax on $100 which would be cheap. but as far as property taxes go, i don't think there is any way around it.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
Listen to pimpjon.Maybe you two can share the same cell.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
make up a bill of sale, you just have to type it up and both of you sign it when he gives it to you and the DMV accepts that as a receipt. The only thing you have to type is... Mr. Him sold Ms. Me a year make and model for $0 as is on this glorious day. Also that will be proof that he gave you the car if he decides to break your heart and try to take the car back, it will show that it is legally yours. Make sure you have it notarized at a local bank, police department or anywhere else you can. The taxes will either be $0 or their minimum. I have actually done this and paid no taxes!Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
If you're in Texas, you can no longer sell a car for $1.00. LOL. They have closed that loophole and you have to pay taxes on the Blue Book Value, not what you bought it for. You can gift a car to someone though. But why would you want to? You're just a girlfriend and he wants to 'give' you an 18,000 car? I smell a rat and lots more trouble than it's worth. But if you don't mind being bought then knock yourself out.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
If it's a gift, you *shouldn't* have to pay sales tax, however you would have to pay property taxes and registration fees when they are due. It would be worth checking with a knowledgeable party, such as a tax attorney or CPA.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
i think u don't need to pay tax for any gift item.

How do I receive a copy of a car title with a lien on it?

I purchased a car used from a dealership in Virginia, and I received my car registration and plated through the dealership. I now live in Ohio and when I went to change my registration to this state, I was told I couldn't without a copy of the car title. I told the DMV that I still owed money on the car, but they insisted I still must have a copy of the title before I could register it in OH.

How can I obtain a copy of the car title without going to VA? I looked on the VA DMV website but am unable to get any info because I never had a VA drivers license. Would the dealership be able to help with this?

Thanks for your help! How do I receive a copy of a car title with a lien on it?
Call whomever you are making payments to. They are the ones who are holding the title and they can give you the documentation you need. How do I receive a copy of a car title with a lien on it?
I would contact the dealer and ask for the title. They should have transferred it over to your name already even if you do still owe on it, it would just have them listed as a lien holder.

ok so i got a truck a lil bit a go from craigslist got the title and a bill a sale so all was good but the truck had a bad engine so spent the last 6months saven up for a new 350 but now thats its all good an runing find out my mom thru away the title and bill of sale befor i could change it in to my name

so my question is how do i go about geting a new title and registering the truck?Replaceing lost car title?
Go to DMV apply for lost title. When you buy the former owner has to get a change of title.then you apply for title.Replaceing lost car title?
you need to go to dmv to apply for a lost title.

and you will need signatures of the old owner on the form.

you should have done that long ago when you have the documents in your hand,

If he gives you the car you will not have to pay any taxes on it. If you are going to spend $18,000 on a car then go to a dealer, not your boyfriend. There is a huge difference between him giving you the car any you paying him $18,000 so I'm a bit confused. Don't be suckered in.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
It depends on the state's sales tax laws. You don't need an agent but you should have a written agreement if you're going to pay for it.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
no if he gave it to you its like a present so you dont pay for your own present right well

there you goDo i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
Yes, its a gift and would need to be claimed on federal and state taxes at the end of the year as a form of income.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
anything over 500 dollars you have to pay taxes depending on state.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
Whoever's name is on the title pays the taxes (for an $18,000, it'll be quite a bit!) You don't need to go through an agent. You need him to sign over the title to you and you need to register it in your name. Do it in the presence of someone you BOTH trust so neither one of you gets screwed. Once he signs the paper, swap with the method of payment... once you have the paperwork in your possesion, the car is legally yours (well, legally yours to register it in your name)Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
its probably hot i wouldn't take it! sounds to suspicious!!!Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
The DMV will allow you to simply transfer the title if he's just giving you the car. If he sells it to you instead, you will have to state the purchase price on their form and pay the sales tax on it there.

I believe that federal taxes apply for any gift you receive that's over $10000, and you will have to check the laws in your particular state to see what gift taxes they might also charge.Do i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
Well in North Carolina you have to pay property tax. If your state/province is the same and change the car to your name then yes. It would be best to call and ask the DMV (on the phone you don't have to use you name). Best of luck to youDo i need to pay taxes if my boyfriend gives me a car?
just pay the taxes and fill out the proper forms

On transferring a car title what does standard presumptive value mean?

I am separated from my husband and have the title to the car I drive, however it is in his name. He has signed it and given it to me. I have heard that I may have to pay a large amount of tax under what is called standard presumptive value. I want to know how to avoid this if possible. Would it be better for him to show that he has given me the car as a gift? Or would this be future IRS taxes for me? Would it be legal for me to not transfer the title to my name and keep it as is, or better to go through with the transfer? My concern is that if I eventually do trade the car in, would the dealership be ok with this. Would my husband be required to be there with me? Would I end up paying the extra for the title at that time? I currently have insurance on the vehicle that I pay and the registration also. The registration is showing my husbands name but I pay the fees. Also, I am wondering about the plates, would I have to get all of this changed if I did have the title put into my name? Thank you for any answers on my situation. On transferring a car title what does standard presumptive value mean?
Some states will allow transfers from parent to child, or husband to wife, or among siblings to be tax free transfers. Since you didn't mention location, I can't tell you for sure.

Call whatever agency issues titles where you are and ask about %26quot;family gift transfers%26quot; and they can tell you if it's allowed where you are.

If it is, he can %26quot;gift%26quot; it to you saving you the tax fees. There will still be a charge to transfer title and registration into your name of course. On transferring a car title what does standard presumptive value mean?
may have to pay a large amount of tax sorry cant get a round taxes

and your legal to keep paying for what you have now so really no need in any change of that i had my dad truck for 10 yrs i just made payments and had it all never change tittle til i sold it if its legal to drive thats what matters and if you keep paying its good to drive without spending any money dotn have to change anything til you sell it and since he has sign tittle you dont need to do anything at all if you sell it but take moneyOn transferring a car title what does standard presumptive value mean?
    1 ever state different

2 [your stateDMV.com or .gov ] usually gets you to the bureaucrats in power

3 most states title transfer causes %26quot;sale%26quot; you pay tax...book value

4 however you r still married [separated is still married] ask DMV about gift or transfer between spouses..may be loophole

5 you can keep registration in husbands name...it does not confer any privileges to him [title only determines ownership] id just wait till it expires and renew in your name.

you can keep title as is if you trade right away but by not doing it he still ownes the car..if it ain't in the dmv computer it ain't real

How does this work? Buying my first car.?

I am buying a used car from a class mate. I do not have the extra cash saved to switch off of my parents insurance on to my own policy and money to transfer title. He wants to sell this weekend. If I were to buy it, and give him the money, could I wait until I get the funds to transfer the title (within two weeks) or would I have to do it all in the same day?

Basically my questions is: Is it mandatory to change a title the day the car would be bought and have proof of insurance, or could it wait? ( I would not be driving the car)

The reason I am asking is my parents need me to get my own policy due to the rates going skyhigh on their part it would be cheaper for me to just get my own.How does this work? Buying my first car.?
You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.netHow does this work? Buying my first car.?
As long as you or nobody else is going to be driving the car, there should be no problem.

Make certain though-that the person you are buying the car from that you can trust them. Make sure. If not, they could take the car out and drive it around after you pay for it and possibly wreck or damage it or maybe claim you didnt give them any money for the car at all. As long as the title is still in their name, it doesnt matter if you gave them money or not-as long as its still in their name they own it.

If you dont think you can trust the person, consider having the car towed to your house until you can get the title taken care of. It would be worth 50 bucks or whatever to make certain its safe.(that was dumb of me, i imagine if you had the money to get it towed you could get the title fixed)How does this work? don't know where you are, but here I think you have 10 days to get title switched to your name, but cant get your plates until you have proof of insurance. here, if you don't do the switch in the time limit, there is a penalty fee for being lateHow does this work? Buying my first car.?
Get the title and everything else you need. If you say its better to go on your own then do it. Don't wait around for the week to come by because then you will have a car sitting outside like you see in some neighborhoods. How does this work? Buying my first car.?
be sure you're getting clear title, transfer doesn't cost but around $40. to do that, but you must furnish proof of insurance in order to do that. i think your parents can carry you on their policy for like maybe 30 days without penalty, call their agent and ask, stating your intentions and ask his advice. no ,usually 30 day grace period. How does this work? Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?

Do you want bureaucrats to determine what procedures the government controlled health care should cover? And for how much? And which drugs you need? And oh boy wait til you get in line for an organ. Do you want those same types at the DMV or running public schools into the whole, to be responsible for YOUR HEALTH? Oh and it'll cost WAY WAY WAY WAY MORE. Government waste and mismanagement at it's pinnacle.

I had to change title on my car. First I was in line forever to get a copy of the title. I had it signed by the parties involved. Took it back. Because the signature wasn't perfect the power tripped government employee wouldn't accept it, had to stand in line to get a whole new title, go back to get it signed. There was nobody to complain to, they're all bureaucrats. I was at their mercy. Same as what happens at public schools and the post office. Is that how inefficient without common sense and full of waste you want your health care to run?Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?
Government can't run a post office, run a railroad, issue home loans, or virtually anything else without TOTALLY SCREWING IT UP. That's the legacy of government in this great nation of ours. O, the choices, the choices.

Was this a %26quot;private sector bureaucrats vs. public sector bureaucrats,%26quot;? no

This truly is an issue of cost.

Assume for one minute you couldn't afford the private sector choices, and you had to choose between the public choice and no choice:

Now, if you had to choose between public school and no school, you'd probably go for the public school. If you had to choose between public postal service and no postal service, you'd probably use the public one.

    Now, the big question:

Given the choice between No Insurance and Public Insurance, which would you go for?Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?
I hate to break this to you, but the US Post Office has been around since there was a country.

Article I, section 8 of the US Constitution instructs Congress to create the US Post Office.

It's not something new, and it didn't prevent private alternatives entirely, did it?

This is how far out you have gone: you're now picking a fight with Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington.

And I don't know why? What is being run by the Government in all of this other than an exchange where private insurance companies all offer their plans?Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?
We don't subsidize the post office. We are unwilling to raise taxes in order to have decent public services, just as we are unwilling to pay more to get products produced in a humane way and instead shop at the bargain store.

Medicare is not like other government services. I don't know anyone who unhappy being on Medicare.

Why would you think that single-payer would be any different?

No one in elected office though, is arguing for single payer. They are arguing for insurance reform.

Your argument is irrelevant to the point at hand.Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?
And let me ask you this. Do you want corporate bureaucrats deciding whether they should cover your condition or just keep the profits? BTW, most of us will never be able to get in line for an organ because we just can't afford it so that argument is completely moot. The real question is do you want our system that is not available to many and cost us twice as much as any other health care system in the world, or do we want a modern, efficient system that is available to everyone like the rest of the world has adopted? BTW, the reason you have to wait in long lines at the DMV is because 40 years of the failed conservative agenda has systematically starved our government in hopes of destroying it to the point that we are forced to eliminate all social services and have a government that does nothing but see to the protection of the corporate entities. Oh yes, I was educated in public schools and I will compare my education to that of about 90% of the graduates of private schools that I have ever met. Especially if you attended a private school and this flawed argument is the best you can come up with!Public schools vs. private, post office lines vs. Fed-ex, DMV, etc. - now your health care too?

How do I begin the process of owning a new car in a new state?

I recently got a new job and moved to a new state. My dad, who currently owns my car and pays the insurance, wants me to take over the car and insurance but I'm not sure what I should do first!

    Things I have to do:

-Get a new driver's license (important, because it just expired a couple days ago)

-Officially change the car over to my name (I have the title)

-Get a new state license plate

    -Get car insurance

I'm guessing I get a new driver's license first, seeing as it's expired AND from a different state. But I'm not sure which order I should complete the remaining three things. I feel like I'm stuck in a weird chicken/egg situation. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance :)How do I begin the process of owning a new car in a new state?
Your dad should have %26quot;gifted%26quot; the car to you before you moved so you won't have to pay sales tax on it's value to the new state.

First get a valid license. You will need that as an I.D. Since you allowed your old license to expire you may have to take the complete driving test, so don't drive to the DMV without a licensed driver with you..

Changing the title, and registering the car can be done the same day you take the drive test, and pass.

The insurance, if it will be in your name, should be last. Many companies will not write a policy if you don't have a driver license, and they will need the license plate, and VIN numbers of the car.How do I begin the process of owning a new car in a new state?
should've gotten the driver's license first,do it now.you need both the title and current tag slip (registration) take to the county seat tax/tag office they'll walk you thru the remaining steps (all there). play dumb when you go to the DMV for license ,maybe they'll let you slide with no penalty and new test procedures .

I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?

I would like to know if I should continue and buy the car.

The seller told me that he can just issue the bill of sale and it would be fine. But I don't think that's gonna be FINE!!

Well, I bought it on ebay and ebay should reimburse the money even though the seller cheated on me..right?

I've done the autocheck and the title part was clean.

But my concern is the lien part.

There was lien reported on 2005.

Then there are different titles after that.

    Well,

the seller tells me that he does not have the title in his hands right now because DMV took it...

    Does it make sense?

Why would DMV take the title?

Here's what he said on the e-mail

    %26quot;** One snag! I no longer have the title in hand! I didn't know this was going to happen but the DMV took it from me when I had the car registered. Doesn't change much other than the fact that instead of a title you will receive a bill of sale. With that you can transfer ownership and receive a new title with your name on it. I had to do this with a previous car so I don't want you to get worried. This wont change anything. I just wanted to let you know.%26quot;

Do I have a right to ask him that I would want to wait till he gets the title and send it to me before I pay him first?

How should I handle the situation here?

I need help folks!!I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
Different states have different laws concerning car titles.

You didn't say how old the car is. Some states don't issue a title for cars over 25 years old. If the car is that old or older, the DMV will keep the old title and will only issue a certificate of registration. The old title is no good any more after it is registered in the new owner's name, so the DMV always keeps the old title on file with the bill of sale and other paperwork as a record of the car changing owners. Your local DMV has all the answers you are looking for, and it is probably all available online. Google is your friend.

There are title services that can help you get a title for a small fee, which is sometimes dependant on the value of the vehicle. Google %26quot;title service%26quot;. The name Broadway Title Service comes to mind. I have used Bonds America 800-949-2299 with good results to get a bonded title. You just have to check with your local DMV to see what the procedure is for your state.

Regarding Ebay, There is a title section on the auction form. So either you overlooked that it was blank or the seller misrepresented that he has the title. In one case it's buyer beware, in the other you need to work with Ebay to resolve this issue if you have already won the auction. If you have doubts about it, don't pay. The worst that can happen is you get booted off Ebay. In that case just start a new Ebay user ID and go on. I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
If he didn't disclose this information in the contract, I would tell him that you will not pay him until you have the title and see there are no liens on the car. It is very unlikely that he owns the car free and clear since it is only 3 years old. It is against the law for him to sell the car if a bank/financer holds the title on it. In some states, the title is not released until the vehicle is paid for.I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
Do not pay him. Do not give money for this car, it all sounds very suspicious to me. Why don't you ring the NRMA or RACV or your local motoring organisation and ask someone there what you should do.

He can't sell something he doesn't have the title to.

I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
You should not buy this car without a title. The seller should have resolved this before he attempted to sell this car. Without the title you don't know if there is a lien on it or who truly owns this vehicle. Don't buy and report him to Ebay. Good luck.I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
...No %26quot;clear Title%26quot; No Sale !!!! (don't get stuck with a Legal problem that you can't get out of!!!) Buyer Beware !I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
Why would anyone buy a used car on eBay?I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
you would be stupid not to wait until he got the titleI bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
Cars are not sold by bill of sale, cars are sold by title. If the DMV took his old title, it was to change it into his name, and if it wasn't in his name he couldn't sell it. Or he is selling a stolen car and lying to you.

Either way, tell him you will only take the car and pay him for it if and when he gives you a clear title in his name signed off to you.

Frankly I wouldn't trust him at all at this point, and even if he subsequently came up with a clear title, I'd still walk away from it.I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
If he listed that fact on the listing you should not have been bidding on it. If he didn't list it and he told you after you won it, back out of the deal and info ebay why you are doing it. You can buy a car without a title, with a bill of sale. But even myself has a dealer has a hard time getting a lost title. And there are complications, mostly if the car had a lien. If it has a lien still on it, the lien must be satisfied. The lienholder doesn't car who pays it, but the title will go to the signer of the loan. Because he still owns it. And as a car dealer I have never heard of DMV ever taking your title away. To me it all sounds off key and I would not go thru with the deal.I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
The DMV would have only taken the title if he was registering a car from another state ...most DMV's send you a new state title in about 5 days...

It's ILLEGAL for him to sell the car with no title in every state. I've bought cars all over the east coast and NEVER heard of a bill of sale and not a title; there is a %26quot;transfer of title%26quot; form, it's usually printed on the BACK of a title - that servers a bill of sale when you go to the DMV (he and you sign it and swear to a price ect...)

He's b/s -ing you. Contact paypal, charge him with breach of contract and go to a reputible car dealer. I would absolutly NOT continue dealing with him...it's not worth possessing a stolen vehicle (sorry, that's the only reason to not have a title then sell the car on Ebay... 10:1 it's hot and he needs to get rid of it fast...carfax doesn't always get stolen car reports...)I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
He says 2 blatant false statements in his email that makes all of the difference in the world.

The sentences %26quot;Doesn't change much other than the fact that instead of a title you will receive a bill of sale.%26quot; With that you can transfer ownership and receive a new title with your name on it%26quot; is not true.

If he doesn't have a title, he doesn't have a car to sell. Plus, you are not going to be able to register the vehicle in your name without the title.

I would drop this transaction immediately. A Bill of Sale without a title won't do you any good.

Car could be stolen or still have a lien that you can't trace until it is too late.I bought a used car on ebay, and seller says no title.?
Indigo is right. He probably bought the car with an out of state title. And basically, the state took the title to check and make sure it is legal, clear and whatever, before they release that states new title in his name. Some states it only takes a week or two, others longer. But, he should have a receipt from the state to prove the has retitled it in his name.

Now the problem is in your ball park. If you are willing to wait until a title is issued in his name, and he shows you proof that he has applied for a title, that is your choice. If he has the proof, and you still decide to purchase the car, I certainly wouldn't give him the full amount until you have the title in your hands that has been signed over to you. If he doesn't have proof from the DMV that he has applied for a title, I certainly wouldn't buy the car. It could end up being a nightmare for you. And certainly not worth the hassle

He can't legally sell something he doesn't own, and technically he broke the contract or agreement or Ebay Auto guidelines. So you can cancel the sale.

Personally I would cancel the sale, because he doesn't have the actual title in his hands. But that is your call. If what he says is legit, he will be selling the car after he gets the title...and I would wait until he can prove it! You may even get a better deal if you wait!! Of course there is the possibility that some other sucker will buy the car, pay the money without the title...but at least it won't be you!!

    When in doubt, don't buy!!

    Good luck.

I don't think probate will take since less then $25,000.00 in Illinois and would be happy to go to court to prove I paid for whole funeral and plot to make them repay. Who actually starts probate court into action and do they pay money to do so. Their attorney already quit because no value in estate? How do I get my vehicle? Should I go to police station with title? Police say I have to hire lawyer, but what will lawyer do? I own the vehicle but how do I get it out of brother檚 garage?

How to get possession of a car I own title but is locked in garage.?
You don't need an attorney, you can file a claim in probate yourself.

    Title name change question....?

Ok, my husbands grandfather passed away. He left everything to his daughter. She gave us his car. Its paid off and we have the title. How do I put this car in my name? Do I need a death certificate first and how long do I have to notify DMV? Im in California if that makes a difference.Title name change question....?
Whomever is the executor/executrix, must sign over the title to you. You then take that title to your DMV and get a title, etc in your name. The executor/executrix will need a death certificate, but you will not.Title name change question....?
You have or rather your daughter has opened you up for a world of hurt. Is she the Estate Executrix? Hope so, If she is she must sign HER name on the transfer section of the title along with her Proof of Executrix or rather proof that she is able legally to perform this duty. Then submit to your DMV along with your application for Title %26amp; Registration. It may take a little longer due to the complexities of this matter (any time a deal varies from the norm for ANYTHING the workers tend to be VERY cautious most times Overly so to protect Themselves) Expect to sit and wait awhile. Good luckTitle name change question....?
She has to take the title of that car, and a copy of the will or executor agreement, and sign it over to you.

    Hi

How can I safely sell my car on eBay?

I have my car on ebay..it has 3 days left. My main concern is collecting the payment. What is the safest way to collect it and not get scammed like so many people do.

Being local is one thing but im also worried about selling it across the country, how would i change the title to their name?

I just want all my bases covered so i don't get screwed for thousands. How can I safely sell my car on eBay?
Do not accept any type of check or money order. Only do a direct deposit from their bank to yours. Once the money is in your account, sign and date the title and make out a bill of sale stating the car is sold as-is with no warranty or guarantee. Make a copy of both and send the original to the buyer via certified mail (or FedEx or UPS) requiring a signature for delivery. The buyer pays for shipping and makes all arrangements to move the car.How can I safely sell my car on eBay?

Its their problem how to pick it up and all

Well my opinion for you is that don't sell the car across the country because now these days people are scamming so try to sell it in your area not across the country! How can I safely sell my car on eBay?
Accept a wire transfer as the only payment method. Bank to Bank wire transfer is the safest and easiest way to get paid.

Paperwork can be handled using overnight mail.
