my mom went to a little car company paid almost in full for the vehicle. she made the final payments over a few months. this is back in 2001/2002 not sure. she recieved a letter saying that there were no more payments due and that a title would be sent out. we never recieved any title what so ever. we can't even get a bill of sale or even a written receipt because that company has since changed hands with somebody else and are basically non-exsistant. we can't sell or junk the car without a title, we can't even get a salvage title without the original title. how can we fix this, it has been sitting in our driveway for 4 years because we just can't fix it.Car title problem?
Keep the letter they sent you and go to your local dmv and ask them how to go about getting the title from the dealer who sold you the car. Show them the letter for proof, as that is the only documentation your mom seems to have.Car title problem?

I lost my husband's car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Please help asap I am trying to sort all this out so I need clear and accurate information. My husband bought a 1969 VW Kombi bus with expired tags. I was holding on to the docs (expired registration and pink slip for change of ownership) so that when we had the money I would handle that but I somehow 'misplaced' them %26amp; now they are MIA!!! I have looked all over my house and work for them with no success. What forms do I need to get at the DMV, do I need to contact the old owner, what if I cant find him? How can I prove that I actually purchased the vehicle? My hubby is distressed and so am I. If anyone has gone thru this process and come out with a successful outcome please let me know exactly what you did. You need the old owner to either write you a new bill of sale and/or apply for another title. In my state, a title is not required on a 69 model.
If you cant get in touch with him, I would fake one. If you don't know his name, you have a big problem.

I檓 looking to purchase a car in the near future, in fact I檓 going to look at some this weekend. Background info, I live in Massachusetts, this is my first car I檓 buying, but I檝e had a license for eight years, and a clean record. In my state (as I believe in all others, though I cannot say for sure), I cannot drive a car if it is uninsured, and I cannot register a car I would buy until it檚 insured. I believe the following to be true, and if it檚 not, please let me know.
In my state, after purchasing a car from a dealer, I will get a filled application from the dealer for registration and title. After getting this application, I need to insure the car, and bring it to a state licensed insurance agent, so that they can stamp and sign said application. Then I can go to the registry and get the car registered/title transferred, and get the plates, so that I can return to the car, change the plates, and drive said car away. I will of course need the previous owner檚 title, or a certificate of origin to finish the transaction to transfer the title, and register the car. After which I檒l need to pass inspection. Then I檒l be in the clear.
Now my question is, if I try one of the various online companies that advertise on the internet, such as Esurance, Progressive, Allstate, Geico, etc, how could they come and stamp/sign the application? Does an agent come to my house, do I go to a local branch or office, or would I be better off getting this done with a local insurance company, and just switching over to a different insurance company after I get the car?
Priority is of course getting the car registered so that I can drive it, and thus, insured so it can be registered and the title transferred. My ability to keep my job is at stake right now, as my previous ride is no longer an option.

yea, its about 1500 for a paint job on a regular sized car. I'm a senior in high school and we have a autobody program that teaches us how to paint cars. You can get your car painted for almost free if you donate it to the school for a little while. all you haev to pay for is the paint which is like 100 i think. yea, its about 1500 for a paint job on a regular sized car. I'm a senior in high school and we have a autobody program that teaches us how to paint cars. You can get your car painted for almost free if you donate it to the school for a little while. all you haev to pay for is the paint which is like 100 i think. I'd look around for that.

Check at the DMV, and you are right it is illegal to change VIN numbers. If your name was on one of those vechicles, you could be held accountable also.

What do we do with a car that was supposed to be repo'ed?
We filed bankruptcy ch. 7 in July/court in August and then changed our mind about the car and rescinded in Sept. When nobody came to get the car in a month we called the bank and they just said it was up to the repo company as to when they come get it. Then someone on here said they cannot take anything from your private land. My aunt said (back when we first gave it up) they could take it while I was in a store shopping or something like that. Well the car no longer has a plate or insurance. Can they come with a flatbed or a hauler and come get it or can't they? We have never experienced a repo before so we don't know how it works and are those repo stories just horror stories or what? I mean the car is nice and has brand new tires and if we could somehow just keep the car that would be great. How would we ever get the title changed? We also have another large item that was included in the bankruptcy. We called the finance co. 4 or 5 months ago and told them to come and get it but they have not. We got our discharge papers about a week ago. My car is a Chevy Impala 2005, My mum bought me this car in july after begging an pleading for it (finally). purchased from a car dealer the title is in her name and mine its not yet paid off, see the only reason i want to sell it is because i need the money for a tuition to go to school i applied for a loan an was turned down because of no credit history, so i'll need a co-signer. But keep trying to sell it , even though you may get less than the balance owing .
It will get you out of it faster .

I am unable to register the car here in texas..and i dont want to drive back to nevada.... the insurance still covers me' and has me listed as a authorized driver..currently.
so im considering leaving the car roadside between texas %26amp; nevada ..have AAA pick it up and leave her the worries of what to do next.
unless theres a way for me to take ownership of this vehicle

I recently got a new job and moved to a new state. My dad, who currently owns my car and pays the insurance, wants me to take over the car and insurance but I'm not sure what I should do first!
Things I have to do:
-Get a new driver's license (important, because it just expired a couple days ago)
-Officially change the car over to my name (I have the title)
-Get a new state license plate
-Get car insurance
I'm guessing I get a new driver's license first, seeing as it's expired AND from a different state. But I'm not sure which order I should complete the remaining three things. You didn't say how old the car is. Some states don't issue a title for cars over 25 years old. If the car is that old or older, the DMV will keep the old title and will only issue a certificate of registration. The old title is no good any more after it is registered in the new owner's name, so the DMV always keeps the old title on file with the bill of sale and other paperwork as a record of the car changing owners. Your local DMV has all the answers you are looking for, and it is probably all available online. Google is your friend.

And basically, the state took the title to check and make sure it is legal, clear and whatever, before they release that states new title in his name. Some states it only takes a week or two, others longer. But, he should have a receipt from the state to prove the has retitled it in his name.
Now the problem is in your ball park. If you are willing to wait until a title is issued in his name, and he shows you proof that he has applied for a title, that is your choice. If he has the proof, and you still decide to purchase the car, I certainly wouldn't give him the full amount until you have the title in your hands that has been signed over to you. If he doesn't have proof from the DMV that he has applied for a title, I certainly wouldn't buy the car. It could end up being a nightmare for you. And certainly not worth the hassle

His house was in land trust benied to his siblings, cash in my control to pay bills, chemo, drs, meds and pharmacy, and when he passed was in negative with me paying his funeral costs out of my personal pocket. There were a couple of vehicles listed in living trust and siblings will not give one that was in garage, title already changed to me, and they threaten probate. I don't think probate will take since less then $25,000.00 in Illinois and would be happy to go to court to prove I paid for whole funeral and plot to make them repay. Who actually starts probate court into action and do they pay money to do so. Their attorney already quit because no value in estate? How do I get my vehicle? Should I go to police station with title? Police say I have to hire lawyer, but what will lawyer do? I own the vehicle but how do I get it out of brother檚 garage?

Title name change question....?
Ok, my husbands grandfather passed away. He left everything to his daughter. She gave us his car. Its paid off and we have the title. How do I put this car in my name? Do I need a death certificate first and how long do I have to notify DMV? Im in California if that makes a difference.Title name change question....?
Whomever is the executor/executrix, must sign over the title to you. You then take that title to your DMV and get a title, etc in your name. The executor/executrix will need a death certificate, but you will not.Title name change question....?

Hope so, If she is she must sign HER name on the transfer section of the title along with her Proof of Executrix or rather proof that she is able legally to perform this duty. It may take a little longer due to the complexities of this matter (any time a deal varies from the norm for ANYTHING the workers tend to be VERY cautious most times Overly so to protect Themselves) Expect to sit and wait awhile.
