We brought the car to a new state, signed the back of the old title, then the car was involved in an accident and totaled and we have already gotten a total loss check for it. Now the insurance company says we need to change the title to be titled in the new state. Is this possible? Who has the car? I assume the insurance company who has given you the check? Call them and tell them you will send them the signed title and they can transfer it since they have the car.

If the insurance company took the vehicle after the total loss, you should just have to send them your title. You shouldn't need to retitle it in another state just to send it to them. You cannot retitle the car without it getting inspected. Is the car at a junkyard or what,where is it? Why did you sign the back of the old title?Please be more clear, I would like to help you solve your dilemma.
