How do I legally get rid of a car without a title & with outstanding tickets?

My wife inherited an old car and tried to change the title to her name, but the DMV screwed it up (twice). We left town and the car accumulated more in tickets %26amp; repairs than we could now sell it for. The car is not in our name. Is is worth it to now make trips to the DMV and get the car street legal, or just dump it %26amp; let the city take it? Or should I find a chop shop? How do I legally get rid of a car without a title %26amp; with outstanding tickets?
Sell it for part on eBay or Craigslist, sans title. But make sure you get a receipt from who you sold it to, with the date and signature, or else you could end up owing for the tickets they get on it as well.

And some one still has to pay the old tickets as well. If you signed something when inherited, I think they might still come after you. So do NOT just leave it sit.

Old cars sometimes are worth more than new ones. Depending on what collectors like.

Any running car is worth $300 or more these days.

But if it is odd, like an AMC Pacer or something, it could be worth thousands. What is it?How do I legally get rid of a car without a title %26amp; with outstanding tickets?
