I recently got a free used car because someone abandoned it at a car shop where my dad works three years ago. My dads boss let me take the car. More than a month ago they sent out title without the previous owners signature to change it into my name.
Does anyone know how long it takes for a title without the previous owners signature to be put in a different persons name? Or does anyone know where these types of titles are typically sent?Trying to get car title without previous owners signature?
Dad should have sent mechanics lien or abandoned vehicle paper work to the local dmv. The dmv would then research and reissue new title to dad's shop. Then the shop could reassign the car to you .Trying to get car title without previous owners signature?
Without the signature of the owner as the seller on the title there is nothing you can do with it. Don't take my word for it, go to the DMV and lay it on the counter. They will hand it back and tell you to get the signature of the owner and come back.
However, the shop where is was abandoned can do a mechanic's lien and get a clear title in their name, which they can then sign over to you.
