my mom went to a little car company paid almost in full for the vehicle. she made the final payments over a few months. this is back in 2001/2002 not sure. she recieved a letter saying that there were no more payments due and that a title would be sent out. we never recieved any title what so ever. we can't even get a bill of sale or even a written receipt because that company has since changed hands with somebody else and are basically non-exsistant. we can't sell or junk the car without a title, we can't even get a salvage title without the original title. how can we fix this, it has been sitting in our driveway for 4 years because we just can't fix it.Car title problem?
Keep the letter they sent you and go to your local dmv and ask them how to go about getting the title from the dealer who sold you the car. Show them the letter for proof, as that is the only documentation your mom seems to have.Car title problem?
Even if there is a lein against it you should still have a title, email me il can have someone get rid of the car for you. for free or even they might pay you.Car title problem?
Why did you wait so long to try and resolve this. Take whatever information you have and visit the DMV and explain the situation. Hopefully, they can get it straightened out for you.

I lost my husband's car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Please help asap I am trying to sort all this out so I need clear and accurate information. My husband bought a 1969 VW Kombi bus with expired tags. I was holding on to the docs (expired registration and pink slip for change of ownership) so that when we had the money I would handle that but I somehow 'misplaced' them %26amp; now they are MIA!!! I have looked all over my house and work for them with no success. What forms do I need to get at the DMV, do I need to contact the old owner, what if I cant find him? How can I prove that I actually purchased the vehicle? My hubby is distressed and so am I. If anyone has gone thru this process and come out with a successful outcome please let me know exactly what you did. Thanks much!I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?

You need the old owner to either write you a new bill of sale and/or apply for another title. In my state, a title is not required on a 69 model.
If you cant get in touch with him, I would fake one. If you don't know his name, you have a big problem.
You can look into getting a bonded title or an abandoned one. neither is cheap or easy.
You wont be legally registering that car anytime soon unless you can locate the paperwork and/or the prior owner.
You cant just walk in and get the prior owners name. Thats private info. They cant give it out by law.I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Don't panic.
Every states DMV has a way to handle the wackiest claims. They deal with very unintelligent people.
Check the DMV sites FAQs.. under vehicles and titles. I'll bet this question is there. Tell the DMV you can't find the old owner just to save your self the hassle of hunting them down.

With the VIN number you can go to DMV and get the info on the last owner.
This is often necessary when a car gets abandoned on a parking lot, and there is a need to contact the owner.
But once you have the info of the registered owner, there is no reason why you can't apply for a duplicate, with a change of address.
No one is going to match the signature carefully, because you are not trying to do anything illegal.
Then when you have the duplicate title, you can fill it out for the title transfer process.I lost my husband%26039;s car title and registration and he just bought it! What to do?
Hope you have a friend that works at a dealership that can get a lost title. Most places won't do it at the risk of it being stolen, they won't get involved.

If a car has a salvaged title...?
If a car has a salvaged title...?
how would that effect DMV, my insurance or purchase?
What does it mean to have a salvage title? Can that title be removed or changed to have a clean title? How?If a car has a salvaged title...?
A salvaged title means the insurance company decided it was too greatly damaged to repair. Then someone bought it for a few bucks and repaired it on the cheap. The car could be OK or it could be mechanically unsafe or it could have been a flood survivor from somewhere like New Orleans and will have rust, mold and electrical problems somewhere down the road. Some, nay MOST insurance companies will not provide full coverage as they consider the car unworthy of repairing if damaged again. Some won't even cover it for liability. Clean the title? NO! Personally I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. If you paid more than about 40% of what the book price of a clean titled car of the same model went for you got the shaft. If a car has a salvaged title...?
I had a 98 tacoma that was a salvaged truck....No you cannot change it into a non salvaged vehicle..This is to protect used car buyers....You would not want to pay full price for a car that was totaled at one time...I got rear ended and totaled the truck again....I still got 10,000.00 for the truck...If it was not totaled I would of gotten about 13,000.00If a car has a salvaged title...?
Salvaged means it cant be registered and driven on the road. Previous salvage means the car has been somewhat repaired, inspected only to see that it has all its doors and a hood and stuff and then you CAN get a title and tag for it.
A previous salvage, rebuilt car is worth no more than about 60% of what it otherwise would be.
If you total it, that's all your insurance company will give you.
Only licensed rebuilders can have a salvage car inspected and turned into a registerable, legally drivable car. They pay a fee for the inspection and then wait for the title.
An individual may be able to buy a salvage car and repair it but they wont be able to get a tag for it until a licensed rebuilder has it inspected and they wont do it for free.
You can drive it all you want around your yard. Just not on the roads until you do.

Lost car title in RI?
I need a replacement car title in Rhode Island for 1991 car. Since the car is more than 10yo, do I need to provide one for buyer? I heard the law was changed in 2000. Where do I go, how long will it take, should I pay an online service?Lost car title in RI?
You need title for ANY age auto you sell.
Contact RI Dept. Motor Vehicles with VIN , make, model, yr and ask for help. They have a form you'll need to fill out. Read and follow instr. carefully and you'll get duplicate title. I'm sure there's a sm. fee.
How long it takes depends on how quickly you act and respond and how long it takes them to do their job. Usually not long. I would not pay on line svc., but you might be able to do all this, or most of it, on line directly with RI DMV.

I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
How much do I have to put on the title that I sold it for and does she have to change it over here? or in Florida? I am under the impression that she has to pay florida taxes in florida not here.I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
If you gave it to her, you put $0 on the title and give her a bill of sale showing it as a family gift.
There would be no sales tax then.
She would take the signed and notarized title to Florida with her bill of sale. The transfer is handled in Florida.I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
She'll pay a minumum tax, she needs to transfer the title in Fl. Put on the title %26quot;gift%26quot;I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
All you have to do is sign the title over to her. Write her name and address on the back of the title and you sign it.
Now not sure if Florida is like South Carolina where you have to pay a tax on the vehicle each year. Depending on the year, make, model and mileage.
If taxes are due on the vehicle your daughter will pay them in the STATE OF FLORIDA when she gets the car down there and goes to register it.
good luck!I want to give my daughter in FL my car how does she transfer my MI title to FL does she do that here or there
That depends on who's driving it to Florida you or her
if she comes %26amp; gets it you can go to the DMV in your state, with her, sign the title, and buy a %26quot;drive away sticker%26quot;
I believe that's about $11. That gives her 10 days to drive to Florida %26amp; get it registered
I would , if I were you , also write up a 'bill of sale' and charge her $1........make sure you have the year-make-model- %26amp; VIN on the bill of sale. also that you %26quot;release all interest in said vehicle%26quot;
She takes the title to her state DMV... with the %26quot;bill of sale%26quot;
they Title it to her in the state of florida ....and get it registered/plated if florida requires any taxes or fees they'll collect ,but i think she'll just need the usual liscence %26amp; title fee
p.s you're a very sweet MomPurple single duvet set made on fingernails

U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
what would happen to u. say if u dont change the title over and if u change all to ur or another persons name. what would the previous owner be legally able to do? what would the charge be for the check person and what type of trouble would happen?U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
in California Grand Theft; among other charges; and since it is a bank, the feds have you cold also.
you are looking at a minimum of 10 years in state prison and god only knows how long the feds will keep you; depending on what kind of day they are having.
the best bet would be, get a job, get a life, and don't do things like that.
thank you for not being a criminal!U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
you will go to jail.U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
you get driven to jail for a very long timeU know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
it would be considered to be grand theft, and grand larceny, that would carry a pretty rough jail sentence right there alone, but they would eventually catch up with you, seems like everyone gets caught these days, good luck.U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
Do not pass Go do not collect $200 go directly to jail for 2-5yrs.U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
You would be charged with fraud and could go to jail.
Most people selling cars will ask for a certified cheque, which cannot be faked. When you change over the registration, the ministry will require ID and proof of purchase and it will be easy for them to trace you when the fraud is discovered.U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
Previous owner will press charges. DMV has the Vin and the owner will report the car stolen. Check forgery grand thieft auto. No title is bad two ways you cannot get title to insure or license plate the car. They call that receiving stolen goods and the poor guy driving the unlicensed untitled car gos to jail and the guy who altered the title gets forgery charges. California is especally strict with automobile laws. I would say 10 to 15 years in Chino Mens Or County jail will teach you stealing a mans ride is bad!U know how easy it is to make checks and such what would happen if u make a fake check and go buy a car?
Hope the law gets you before I do.IT WOULD BE EASYER ON YOU TO GO WITH THE LAW INSTEAD OF ME.
